The Walled City, as the first of three expansions in life, really isn’t an expansion per se, as it is the starting area in the game of life.
So just as most MMORPGs have a starting area which provides an onboarding experience to help you understand the game, so too does life have a starting area which provides an onboarding experience to help you understand the role-playing game called Life. By completing this starting area, you gain the role of becoming an “adult.”
Inside the walls of the Walled City, everything feels safe, familiar, and organized. There are rules to follow, guards to keep you in line, and paths everyone else seems to know. It’s comforting—but if you never leave, you’ll never see what lies beyond the walls.
Psychologists call this the Socialized Mind: the part of you shaped by society, culture, and authority. It knows what’s expected, fits in, and seeks approval. It thrives on rules, rewards, and structure—but its perspective is limited to what it has learned from the world around it.
From here, you can master the basics, build security, and gain confidence. But the walls are also boundaries: the game of life truly opens up only when you step outside, question the rules, and explore the unknown. Recognizing the walls is the first step toward choosing your own path.
